For the ten minutes where nothing is scheduled.
Sorting Mania is a swipe game. Items come up one at a time and everyone sorts them left or right on their phone, against the clock. That is the whole thing, and the simplicity is the point.
Low effort on both sides
Nobody has to learn rules, and you do not have to prepare anything. Pick a subject, get a deck, run it.
It is not a high stakes game and it is not trying to be the main event. It is the one you put on while people are arriving, while a break is ending, or in the gap where the schedule has nothing in it.
It lives on the phone
The game is in everyone's hand rather than on a screen at the front. That is why it works the same way in a room, in a hybrid meeting, or with a team who are all at home.
AI can build you deck but you should look at it first
Type a subject and you get a set of items in seconds. Write your own instead if you would rather.
Worth saying plainly: AI gets things wrong sometimes, so give the deck a glance before you run it. And when one does slip through, it is usually the best round of the game, because the room stops sorting and starts arguing about whether it belonged there at all.
What you can change
The subject, the items, and the length of a round. Anything can become a deck, which is why it works for a class, a workshop, or a team who all know the same running joke.
Sorting Mania is part of the Games for Crowds library.
